About Harriman

Founded in the late 1800s by supporters of the temperance movement, advocating abstinence from alcohol, Harriman was once the site of American Temperance University. Although the area freely sells and drinks liquor today, there are still a few traditional residents of a Harriman house or apartment for rent that refuse to take part in such activities. Featuring a population of 7,000, Harriman is about 42 miles west of Knoxville, with most residents commuting into the city for work.
