Built at the intersection of 2 railroads, Humboldt was originally built to serve a growing transportation industry. The Humboldt Municipal Airport was simultaneously built to serve that purpose, although it is now only used by general aviation. The area’s largest employer is Procter and Gamble Defense Corporation that runs the Milan Arsenal, a few miles east of Humboldt. Just outside of Humboldt is Davy Crockett Lake and Humboldt Fish Hatchery, popular day trip destinations. Closer to home, Bailey Park and 4 other city-operated parks comprise the mainstay of Humboldt’s recreational facilities. Humboldt Golf & Country Club offers a full 18 holes and is equally popular. The Humboldt City School District serves the area’s K-12 educational needs with 3 elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
