Adjacent to Watts Bar Lake and 37 miles outside of Knoxville, Tennessee, Kingston hosts about 5,000 residents who enjoy a unique style of suburban living in a rural area of the state. Although the waterfront was once a hub of steamboat operations on the Tennessee River, the area is now used for recreation. Interestingly, Kingston served as Tennessee's state capital for one day in 1807. The Kingston Fossil Plant, when built in 1955, was the world’s largest coal-burning power plant, and provides all of the town’s electricity locally. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Kingston can utilize the I-40 to reach downtown Knoxville for work in about 40 minutes, making Kingston the perfect oasis for businesspeople to relax after a long day in the city.
The Fourth of July is the Kingston community’s biggest day because of the Fireworks and Music Show, Boat Races ECDBA, and Smokin’ the Water events. A popular local attraction for residents of a Kingston house or apartment for rent and visitors is the historic Watts Bar Belle Riverboat. The Roane County School System operates an elementary, middle, and high school in Kingston, which is quite unusual for a town of Kingston’s small size. Southwest Point Golf Course and Lakeside Golf Course, as well as Roane County Park and Southwest Point Park provide the bulk of recreational facilities in the area in addition to a number of small playgrounds and neighborhood parks.
