Rusk has a population of approximately five thousand one hundred residents, and is considered a part of Cherokee County. Rusk serves as the county seat of Cherokee County, and was originally founded on April 11, 1846. Rusk was home to three governors, two of Texas and one of Wyoming, and enjoys moderately warm weather throughout much of the year.
