About Essex

Located in Northwestern Vermont on the Winooski River, the town of Essex is divided into two sections: Essex Junction and Essex Center. The bustling town lies just east of Burlington. Essex Junction serves mostly as the town’s industrial center, where the Central Vermont Railroad passes and several highways join. Essex Center is a much small division that is mostly the residential area of the town. Each of these two districts of Essex provides their own county government, fire station, recreational services, and education for grades K-8. However, both districts utilize a unified police force and Essex High School.

Residents of Essex can find no place better to live, since the town is recognized for its safe environment, a well established education system, diverse shopping, and a wide array of recreational facilities including golf courses and ski trails. Despite its rural feel, Essex is a fairly urbanized city that is also home to an IBM manufacturing plant.
