Saint Albans is a town located in Franklin County, on the shore of Lake Champlain where the lake monster “Champ” was sited. Sometimes called the “Maple Sugar Capital of the World,” maple sugar has always been the major industry of Saint Albans, in addition to dairying and ice cream making. For a short period in the early 1800’s, the town’s location near the Canadian border made it popular with smugglers. Saint Albans was also a station on the Underground Railroad and the northernmost engagement of the American Civil War. Most of the events in Saint Albans are related to the town’s love for maple syrup. Some of these fun attractions are all in honor of maple syrup, and the include the annual Vermont Maple Festival, candy making demonstrations, parades, pancake breakfasts, craft markets, antique shows, and the Sap Run. Residents of the beautiful town are also rewarded with a beautiful park, unique shops, historic churches, and museums. Homeowners new to the area will never get lost since the people of Saint Albans are extremely friendly and are always willing to point someone in the right direction.
