About Springfield

Springfield was charted in 1761, and is located in the middle of the Precision Valley Region, where the machine tool industry of Vermont started. Many precision machining companies were located in the town such as James and Lamson Machine Tool Company, Bryant Chucking Grinder Company, Lovejoy Tool Company, and Fellows Gearshaper Company. This machining town contains a population of about 9,000 people. The town is also home to other historical events such as the forming of the Springfield Telescope Makers in 1923, which is still located there today. Vermont’s oldest one-room school, the Eureka Schoolhouse, is also located in Springfield.
