About Collinsville

Collinsville is part of Henry County, a county where members of the Native American Saura Indian Tribe are believed to have once lived. Today, much of the population within Henry County are slave era descendants. During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, tobacco was the cash crop for the area. Eventually, corn and wheat became important crops in the area, and many mills were built. The area really started to prosper when the Danville and Western Railway Routes were built though the area, and trade and transportation began to boom. The area was also modernized upon the introduction of electricity, the telegraph, and the telephone at the same time. Today, the economy is mostly fueled by furniture manufacturing, along with the textile and apparel industry.
