Fort Belvoir is a military instillation that was once a camp founded during World War I, Camp Humphreyes, but later, the camp was renamed Fort Belvoir in honor of the historic Belvoir Manor that was the home of Thomas Fairfax. The population of 7,000 people is run by the garrison commander, Colonel Brian W. Lauritzen. Today, Fort Belvoir is home to a number of military related institutions including the Defense Logistics Agency, the Defense Contract Audit Agency, the Defense Technical Information Center, and the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, and agencies of the United States Department of Defense.
