About Madison Heights
Located in Central Virginia, Madison Heights has a population of approximately 12,000 residents. Madison Heights is a community located within Amherst County. Amherst County was named after Sir Jeffrey Amherst, who was also known as the “Conqueror of Canada.” Most of the area in Amherst County was agricultural land using for growing tobacco, then apples. The timber, mining, and milling industries were also important in the area. The introduction of the railroad in the county caused many towns and cities to grow rapidly. The area around Madison Heights offers excellent educational opportunities at fine institutions including Central Virginia Community College, Southern Virginia University, and Lynchburg College. National Parks including Blue Ridge Parkway and George Washington National Forest are also located nearby, as well as golf and many other fun recreational activities offered at the parks in and around Madison Heights.
