With a population of over 6,000, the town of Marion was named after American Revolutionary War officer, Francis Marion. Marion is a beautiful town that has received the award as an official Virginia Main Street Community and National Main Street Community due to its attractive and energetic downtown district. Marion is also home to the Lincoln Theatre and General Francis Marion Hotel, which is a AAA Three-diamond “boutique hotel.” Marion is also known as the birthplace of the Mountain Dew flavor.
Marion is a fun, upbeat town that features local artists, fine arts, musicians, fine dining, and shopping at the town’s Art Walk, which is held on the second Friday of each month from May through December. Excellent education is offered at Marion College and Roanoke College. Marion also has its own minor league baseball team, the Marion Mets. Located near Marion is the Hungry Mother State Park, where people can swim, camp, go boating, and hike in the beautiful outdoors.
