Petersburg is a historic city located in Southeastern Virginia, along the Appomattox River and next to two other historic cities, Hopewell and Colonial Heights. Built in 1645, Fort Henry was the first settlement built in what is present day Petersburg, and Fort Henry served as a major point of battle during both the American Revolution and the American Civil War. Today, Petersburg is a manufacturer of textiles, chemicals, luggage, and furniture. Petersburg offers great education at schools including Richard Bland College, and Virginia State University.
