About Woodbridge

In the past, Woodbridge was primarily a farming and industrial community, however, the area has undergone massive development starting in the mid-1980’s, which has led to Woodbridge also becoming a large residential area. The community is considered a suburban city, and its nearby location to Washington D.C. has resulted in Woodbridge containing mostly residents that work in the Washington area. Both an increase in developmental housing and the demand for housing in the area has caused once extremely low housing rates to fluctuate in the past couple of years. Many luxury housing is being constructed in the area, as well as the Potomac Harbor planned community, and the construction and renovation of new malls including the Potomac Town Center and Potomac Mills.

Woodbridge has been known for its excellent shopping, especially because it contains one of the largest malls, the Potomac Mills Mall, which also includes an outlet mall, in the nation. The historic Rippon Lodge, which is the oldest house in Prince William County, is also located in Woodbridge and was recently converted into a park and museum. A new Catholic high school, the Pope John Paul the Great Catholic High School, also recently opened, and contains state of the art facilities. Currently, most of the development in the Woodbridge area is being aimed for more upscale, expensive lifestyles.
