About Kenmore

Also known as “Kenmore by the Lake,” Kenmore is a beautiful city with a population of 18,678. The city is located on the northernmost shores of Lake Washington in King County. Kenmore is a mix of a bedroom community, one time country retreat, and a freshwater industrial port. The city also includes the nation’s largest seaplane only commercial air facility. Kenmore’s official city bird is the great blue heron, and its official city flower is the dahlia. The official city evergreen is the rhododendron. Kenmore was founded in 1901 by John McMaster, who named it after his hometown in Ontario. Although the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway passed through the city in as early as 1887, most people traveled to the city by boat. Since 2000 the city has undergone much development and much of the pasture land has been converted to high end housing.

Kenmore has been known for its excellent dining and shopping as well as its educational system. Bastyr University it is located in the city.
