Located five miles south of the US-Canadian border in Whatcom County, Lynden is a beautiful town with a population of just over 9,000. The town was named by Phoebe Judson after the poem Hohenlinden, which was written by T. Campbell. Lynden is situated along the Nooksack River, which empties into Bellingham Bay, which is located nearby. The area surrounding Lynden is used primarily for agricultural purposes where raspberry, blueberry, and strawberry farms are located. The town also contains close ties to its Dutch heritage, which is represented in areas of the town such as Front Street, which is designed with a Dutch theme and contains Dutch stores and eateries.
This charming town is known for its beautiful greenery and landscapes, Dutch architecture, and abundance of churches. Each year a Dutch festival is held, where the entire community takes part in a parade, street sweeping, and wooden shoe dances. The Northwest Washington Fair also takes place here, where excellent agricultural products, arts, and crafts are put out on display.
