A city located in King County with a population of over 22,000, is situated in Lake Washington on an island also known as Mercer Island. The island it itself was first settled in the 1870’s. It was named after one of the first visitors in the area, the Mercer brothers, who often travel to the island by boat to pick berries, to fish, and hunt. The first large settlement was located on the northwestern side of the island and was named “East Seattle.” After a ferry dock was built on the island, the population grew and a small Business district prospered. In 1940, the Lake Washington Floating Bridge was built which resulted in the island’s business district moving to its current location on the northern edge of the island. The city of Mercer Island was incorporated in 1960, and it included the land area of the entire island.
Residents living in home or apartment for rent it can find excellent dining, shopping, and educational opportunities in the area. Mercer Island of also includes several popular attractions such as The Mercer, and Island Square, both of which are apartment complexes and shopping centers. They’re also popular parks located in the city, which include The Lid, Luther Burbank Park, Pioneer Park, Dragon Park, Lake Washington, and Clark Beach. Some major events and festivals that take place in the city include the Seafair celebration, in which the Blue Angels performed annually, and the summer celebration, which takes place during the weekend after the Fourth of July and ends in a fireworks display.
