During the early 1890’s, and mill was constructed on a hill overlooking the Puyallup Valley, and eventually a settlement was built around it. This settlement, known as “Mill Town, “was made up of lumber camp workers who furnished timber to feed to the mill. However, the U.S. postal service rejected the two-word name and the name was changed to Milton. After the construction of that Interurban Railway in the early nineteen hundreds, which ran in through Milton between Seattle and Tacoma, Milton grew into a larger community, and shortly after the first public school house was built. Soon after, the Milton Land Company helped develop the settlement into an organized to town. In 1905, the first post office opened, and Milton became official incorporated two years later. Eventually, Milton became less dependent on timber and grew into a bedroom community for those who commuted to the larger, surrounding cities nearby.
Residents living in homes or apartments for rent love Milton’s small town appeal. Despite its location near the neighboring city of Tacoma, it is a peaceful, quiet community surrounded by lush greenery. Through a community effort, frequency community events, quality schools, and a strong leadership, Milton has retained its unique charm and quality. Some great events that take place in Milton include community picnic and a festival known as Milton days. The city is also home to Milton Activity Center where of residents can participate in great activities including arts and crafts, exercise classes, dancing, and games. Milton also has numerous beautiful parks where residents can find excellent recreational and outdoor activities.
