This charming city is located in Grant County, central Washington, on the northeastern shore of Moses lake. The lake itself was a traditional hunting and fishing ground. The area was first settled in 1897, and the city and was laid out in 1910 and named Neppel, until I was renamed for the Columbia-Sinkiuse Indian leader, Moses. From due to its location in the Columbia River basin, the city is a trade center of an agricultural region that produces sugar beets, alfalfa, potatoes, cereal, and livestock. If after the Grand Coulee Dam was built in the area, the water table was raised and numerous lakes were created. Today, tourism and food processing are the city’s main economic basis. The city is also home to the Big Bend Community College. Moses Lake has a population of about 18,000 residents.
Most people come to the Moses Lake area to see the Moses Lake and the Potholes State Parks, including the Potholes Reservoir. If another of popular attraction is the Sand Dunes ORV Park. The city also has a water park which contains water slides, diving boards, a children’s pool, a wave pool, and an Olympic size swimming pool. Several festivals and events that take place in the city include the Spring Festival and the Moses Lake Water Sports Festival.
