About Renton

With a population of almost 8,000 residents, Renton is a beautiful city located in King County, on the flats of the Cedar River at its mouth on Lake Washington. Renton is only 20 miles southeast of Seattle. The area that was first settled was once the site of a Duwamish Indian village, and it was named after William Renton, an industrial pioneer. Although coal deposits nearby helped the city to flourish, the city’s economy is currently supported by lumber, steel, and clay industries. A Boeing aircraft plant and railroad foundry is also located in Renton. Renton also contains truck and poultry farms. The area is served by ocean transportation via Puget Sound, Ballard Locks, and Lake Washington.

Throughout the past decade, Renton has promoted much retail and residential development in the city. Residential development has opened up many great houses and apartments for rent. The downtown area has also undergone a massive revitalization project, and retail developments such as “The Landing” are bringing many retail stores to the city.
