About University Place

Located in Pierce County, University Place has a population of over 31,000 residents. University Place received its name in the 1800’s when the University of Puget Sound purchased land along the primary north-south route of Grandview Drive with the plans of building a private Methodist college. However, the college ended up selling the land back to the city, and University Place remained an unincorporated part of Pierce County until the City of University Place was formed in 1995. Today, the city is a mixed business and residential area located near the Puget Sound waterfront. Unlike the neighboring cities of Tacoma and Lakewood, University Place is relatively affluent and has lower crime rates. University Place is home to both Curtis Senior High School and Charles Wright Academy.

One of the most popular and celebrated events in University Place is the UP Fest, which takes place each year, and has music and entertainment for the entire community. The UP Fest consists of a car show, local entertainment, and over 150 vendors. The city also has many sports camps for its youths, as well as many other fun, great activities and recreational clubs for all of its residents. University Place is an excellent place to live, and it provides all of the necessary services and activities for all of its citizens.
