Located in Chelan County of central Washington, in the foothills of the Cascade Range, Wenatchee is a beautiful city with a population of over 28,000 residents. The city is also situated just below the confluence of the Wenatchee and Columbia rivers, opposite of East Wenatchee. The name derives from the Yakima Native American word, wenachi, which means “river flowing from a canyon.” The city was founded in 1888, but moved one mile east in 1892 in order to be along the Great Northern Railway. With the development of the Columbia River Irrigation Project, the city developed into a packing and shipping center for large fruit. The city’s economy also consists of the lumber and aluminum reduction industries.
Some popular establishments located in Wenatchee include the North Central Washington Museum, Wenatchee Valley College, and a Washington State University horticultural experiment station. A major event in the city is the annual Washington State Apple Blossom Festival. The city also offers great recreational services and activities, including golf courses, recreational facilities, and baseball and soccer fields. Residents and visitors can also hike, fish, hunt, and participate in water sports in the beautiful city of Wenatchee.
