Located in Brown County, De Pere is a charming city with a population of about 23,000. De Pere is primarily a suburban community of Green Bay. In 1671, a French Jesuit explorer by the name of Pere Claude-Jean Allouez founded the St. Francis Xavier Mission. This establishment was located at the last set of rapids on the Fox River before entering the Bay of Green Bay. This site was called Rapides Des Peres, meaning rapids of the fathers, and became modern day De Pere. The city is home to St. Norbert College which was founded by Norbertine Abbot Pennings in 1898. De Pere is also home to the North Broadway Street Historic District and De Pere Lock and Dam Historic District, all of which are on the National Register of Historic Places.
One of the most celebrated events in De Pere is the Celebrate De Pere festival, which takes place each Memorial Day weekend. The festival includes live entertainment, games, food, a fireworks show, and much more. The city also has great shopping, dining, and recreational opportunities. Voyageur Park is one of the most popular and beautiful parks in the area. De Pere also has three boat launches so residents and visitors can take part in exciting water sports on the Fox River.
