About Mequon

Located in Ozaukee County, Mequon is a beautiful city with a population of about 24,000 residents. The area was originally settled by the Potawatomi and Menominee Indians, and European trappers, explorers, and traders used the Milwaukee River, which runs through the middle of the city, as a means of transportation. The name is believed to have been derived from a Native American word that translates to ladle. The “ladle” refers to the ladle-like curve in the Milwaukee River in the Mequon area. The town of Mequon was officially incorporated as the City of Mequon in 1957.
