About Mount Horeb

Sometimes referred to as the troll capital of the world, the village of Mount Horeb, located in Dane County, has a unique infatuation with trolls. The mainstreet of Mount Horeb, which is referred to as the “Trollway,” is dotted with troll statues, themes, and decorations. The city is also sometimes declared the mustard capital of the world because it is home to the Mount Horeb Mustard Museum, which contains a large collection of unusual mustards and antique mustard jars. The village was named by Englishman, George Wright, and many Norwegian immigrants settled in the area. Today, Mount Horeb has a population of about 6,000 residents. Trolls originated from early Scandinavian folklore, and the troll theme of Mount Horeb started to catch on after the owners of a Scandinavian gift shop, which was located in Mount Horeb, placed troll statues on the lawn in front of the store in order to attract visitors. Eventually, these trolls became an attraction with residents and visitors that the village decided to create a troll theme within the rest of the downtown district in order to preserve the village’s unique identity and in order to attract more tourists. As a result, the village hosts an annual Thirsty Troll Brew Fest. Another exciting celebration that takes place in Mount Horeb is the Fall Heritage Festival. The village also offers great dining, shopping, and recreational opportunities to all of its residents and visitors.
