Located in central Connecticut about 20 miles south of Hartford, the town of Portland, Connecticut, is one of almost 9,000 that was once famous for its brownstone quarries. The town is somewhat removed from its surrounding by its location on a bend in the Connecticut River, making it a secluded luxury for the many who call this place home. In a nod to its history, today the quarries, just off Main Street in the town's central business district, are a popular destination for education and tourism here and residents looking for a house for rent or an apartment for rent here will be sure to catch a glimpse of them. Portland is a vastly organized community with lots of events and programs for residents. It features a senior center and special children's programs organized by the town's youth services department. Two elementary, a middle and a high school are located here, as are eight marinas and boat clubs along the river and an 18-hole golf course. The Meshomasic State Forest is located here and the town offers one of the most spectacular Fourth of July fireworks displays in the state. Those coming to find a house for rent or an apartment for rent will also find many shopping and dining options.
