Situated in the southeastern corner of the state on Stonington Harbor on Long Island Sound near Little Narragansett Bay, the town of Stonington, Connecticut, is one with a population of nearly 18,000, with that increasing quite a bit in the summer months. The downtown area is very classic New England, with two main streets linking two squares, Cannon Square and Wadawanuck Square. Those looking for a house for rent or an apartment for rent here will be taking up residence in the only Connecticut town facing the Atlantic Ocean. Stonington is a refreshing town, as it is absent of heavy traffic or other nuisances that plague more modern and industrialized areas. This town has embraced its role as a historic area, and much of its colonial, federal and Greek architecture remain. Three elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school are in the district that serves children in Stonington and nearby Pawcatuck and Mystic, with schools located throughout each of the three towns. Residents coming here to find a house for rent or an apartment for rent will also find it is home to the last remaining commercial fishing fleet in Connecticut.
