In the southeastern reaches of the state, just miles from the Gulf, Thibodaux, Louisiana, is a historic bayou town of more than 14,000 residents. The town is about an hour southwest of New Orleans and is in a region surrounded by lakes and other smaller bodies of water. The town was established in 1801 by its namesake, Henry Schuyler Thibodaux.
