A suburb of the state's capital, Los Alamos, New Mexico, lies about 33 miles northwest of Santa Fe, home to about 12,000 residents in Los Alamos County. The town is most popularly known as the home of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, a venture that was founded for the undertaking of the Manhattan Project, where researched developed the first atomic bomb.
