Peru is a relatively small community found in the northeastern portion of the state of New York. Peru has a population of approximately six thousand four hundred residents and is technically considered a town of the Empire State. Peru is situated in Clinton County and takes its name from its resemblance to the mountainous terrain of Peru. Peru was originally settled in the year seventeen seventy two, and was host to the Battle of Valcour Island.
