The town of Southold has a population of about 21,000 residents in Suffolk County and is located on the northeastern tip of Long Island on the North Fork. The town also consists of a hamlet known as Southold, which was first settled in 1640. Although it is not certain, it is believed that Southold was the first English settlement on Long Island. These English settlers were English Puritans from New Haven Colony in Connecticut. The land where Southold is located was purchased from the Corchaugs, a Native American tribe. Southold became a thriving center for trade, fishing, and whaling because the harbor at Greenport rarely froze over. Residents living in a home or apartment for rent can easily find convenient modes of transportation including ferry, railway, air, and bus. Often, the town’s most popular attractions are its parks and beaches, Arshamonaque Pond, Fort Corchaug, Dam Pond, Southold’s hamlets, and east end lighthouses. There are also many nature trails in the area that provide great outdoor and recreational activities. Southold is a beautiful and charming town that has great services and amenities to offer to everyone.
