Uniondale is a beautiful, tree filled hamlet and suburb of the nearby New York City. Uniondale is situated in Nassau County on Long Island and is one of the numerous hamlets and villages that make up the Town of Hempstead. The community has a population of about 24,000 residents. Hempstead has a population of about 756,000 residents. The area was first settled in 1644 when a treaty was established between English colonists, John Carman and Robert Fordham, and the Native Americans in the area. It is believed that the city got its name either from Hemel Hempstead in the United Kingdom, or the Dutch city, Heemstede. The region where Uniondale is located is filled with numerous colonial landmarks, some of which include Cooper Field, St. George’s Church, the George Hewlett House, and Rock Hall. Hofstra University is also located in the area. The area also offers great sporting and musical events at places such as the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, and Belmont Park, which is also home to the annual Belmont Stakes.
