Westmoreland is a charming town located in west-central Oneida County and has a friendly population of about 6,000 residents. The region was first settled in 1748 by James Dean, who was a missionary within the Oneida Native American Tribe. In 1792, Westmoreland was formed from the Town of Whitestown. Then, in 1802, part of the land in Westmoreland was taken to form the towns of Vernon and Verona. More land was taken in 1855, when the Town of Kirkland was established south of Westmoreland.
