With a population of about 8,000 people, Yorktown Heights is a community located within the Town of Yorktown in Westchester County, New York. Yorktown is a town with a population of about 37,000 people and is situated in the suburbs of New York City. The town is only 38 miles north of midtown Manhattan. The region was one of the first areas in New York to be inhabited by the Native Americans. In 1788, Yorktown was officially incorporated and named after Yorktown, Virginia, where a major battle of the Revolutionary War took place. The area around Yorktown Height also has much to offer its residents, including many dining, shopping, and recreational opportunities. The Jefferson Valley Mall is a popular shopping destination located within the area. Another major establishment located in the area includes the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. The town also hosts the Greasestock festival which takes place every year and takes place at the 18th century landmark Peter Pratt’s Inn, where a showcase of alternate fuel vehicles is also located. The Donald J. Trump State Park, Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, and Teatown Lake Reservation are also some of the beautiful parks located in the area.
