About Forest City

The charming and beautiful city of Forest City is situated in Rutherford County, only six miles east of Rutherfordton, the county seat. Forest City is nestled in the lush foothills of the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains. The city has a population of about 8,000 friendly residents. The city originated as a crossroads settlement and was incorporated as Burnt Chimney in 1877. The community took its original name from the remains of the McArthur home that marked the crossroads. Later, in 1887, the name was changed to Forest City, after a prominent citizen by the name of Forest Davis. In 1914, the Forest City Betterment Club was established in order to preserve and better the charming beauty of the community, and at one time Forest City was ranked as one of the ten most beautiful and best planned towns in the United States. Today, Forest City promotes an excellent quality of life because of the city’s beautiful scenery, friendly community, small town atmosphere, quality services, and great shops and restaurants. The city is also home to several interesting museums such as the Antigue Auto Museum, Rutherford County Farm Museum, and Maimyetta Black Fine Arts Museum. Forest City also holds several exciting events, including several car shows, baseball tournaments, a BBQ, music concerts, and Christmas festivities. The city also offers great recreational services to all of its residents, including senior citizens.
