The charming town of Oak Island is situated on an island with the same name and is located in Brunswick County near the southern border of North Carolina. The towns of Caswell Beach and Fort Caswell are also located on the island. Although most of the town of Oak Island is on the island, some of the town extends beyond the bridge that connects the island to the mainland north of the town. Oak Island has a population of about 7,000 residents and was formed when the towns of Long Beach and Yaupon Beach were consolidated in 1999. Tourism is the town’s main economy, and many summer homes are located in the area. Due to Oak Island’s location on the water, recreational activities are one of the most popular activities that can be found in the area. With over 52 beaches, the town offers great fishing piers, a marina, boat and canoe ramps, picnic area, bike paths, as wells as a golf course and arcade. The town also offers great shopping and dining, and a medical facility, library, and several churches.
