About Statesville

Situated in west-central North Carolina, the city of Statesville has a population of about 24,000 residents and is the county seat of Iredell County. In 1753, Scots-Irish Presbyterians and German Lutherans began to settle in the area. They moved into the area from Pennsylvania. These settlers found fertile farmland and plentiful game and water in the region. The settlement was eventually named the Fourth Creek Congregation due to the nearby fresh water stream. When the Iredell County was established in 1788, the legislature designated the Fourth Creek Congregation as the county seat and changed its name to Statesville.
