Trumbull County’s city of Cortland originated in 1874 with the construction of a railroad depot and by 1980 grew to have 5,000 residents. Today, Cortland is home to almost 7,000 residents and until 2005 was a dry city. Just 25 miles north of Youngstown on Route 11, Cortland is also connected by rail to Ohio’s larger cities. Because of Cortland’s central location, light industry growth is occurring, offering job openings to many local residents.
