About Ponca City
Founded in 1893 after the Cherokee Outlet was opened for settlement in the Cherokee Strip land run, the largest in United States history, the city of Ponca City was developed on a plot of land close to the Arkansas River and a fresh water spring to provide the community with drinking water and transportation. Located 106 miles north of Oklahoma City along the I-35 and 86 miles south of Wichita along the same interstate, Ponca City has grown to a population of 26,000 residents. ConocoPhillips continues to operate one of the United States' largest refineries in Ponca City and is the area’s biggest employer.
