The city of Forest Grove was created by Alvin and Abigail Smith as a farming settlement at the end of the Oregon Trail. With a growing population of 21,000 and prominent location just 27 miles west of Portland along Route 26, Forest Grove has since diversified into markets larger than agriculture. Led by food and beverage processing and manufacturing, the local economy includes value-added wood products, technology, and health care. Main agriculture products including nurseries, winemaking, and blueberries still exist.
