About La Grande
A hefty 4 hours east of Portland, the city of La Grande is situated in the far northeastern corner of Oregon a long 260 miles east of Portland. Its current name comes from Charles Dause, a French settler, who used the phrase "La Grande" to describe the area's charm. Although La Grande lies east of the Blue Mountains, it is still very much a part of the Oregon culture. Today, La Grande is home to 13,000 residents and is connected to Portland and other communities by the I-84. Residents of an apartment or home rental in La Grande can utilize the railroad that runs through the city center or the La Grande-Union County Airport for transportation into the bigger cities. Some of La Grande’s top attractions include Eastern Oregon Fire Museum, Union County Museum, Elgin Opera House, and Eagle Cap Excursion Train. La Grande Country Club is a favorite hangout for the richer portion of the city.
