A 3 hour drive east of Eugene, Oregon along Highway 126 will lead to the city of Prineville. Home to just under 10,000 residents, Prineville was founded in 1877 in anticipation of a railroad that was under construction. However, when residents of the new village discovered the railroad would be routed elsewhere, they collected money to build their own rail system, which provides the city excellent regional transportation even today.
