Forty-five miles northeast of Eugene, Oregon is the 8,000-person city of Sweet Home. Due to its location near lakes, rivers and the Cascade Mountains, Sweet Home is sometimes referred to as the Gateway to the Santiam Playground. First settled in 1851, the area was and is still known for its precious and lucrative variety of agate, jasper, crystals, and minerals. Residents of a Sweet Home house or apartment rental usually travel to larger cities for shopping at big-box retailers like Wal-Mart and Home Depot, although most day-to-day shopping can be accomplished successfully in Sweet Home itself. Residents are attracted to Sweet Home’s charming community, grand properties, and well maintained neighborhoods. Residents of an apartment or home for rent in Sweet Home are close to area attractions including the Green Peter Dam, East Linn Museum, Weddle Covered Bridge, and Quartzville Back Country Byway. Local activities like the Mountain Mud Festival and Oregon Jamboree provide opportunities for the Sweet Home community to bond. The Community Swimming Pool is located on the high school campus which is the only high school in the city.
