Across the Susquehanna River from the Harrisburg, the city of Camp Hill is home to 8,000 residents just 2 miles from the state capital’s city center. The city was created as a stop for the Cumberland Valley Railroad between Harrisburg and Carlisle prior to the Civil War. Most residents commute into Harrisburg for work although many residents of a Camp Hill house or apartment for rent work locally at companies headquartered in the city including Rite Aid Corporation, Harsco Corporation, and Gannett Fleming Inc. The Camp Hill School District is the smallest district in the state yet provides a complete K-12 education through 2 elementary schools, a middle school, and high school. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Camp Hill enjoy the city’s relatively affluent neighborhoods that increase the general quality of life in the area. Siebert Park, Williams Park, and Memorial Park provide a variety of recreational venues including gyms, pools, tennis courts, and jogging paths. Besides traditional Memorial Day and July 4th Celebrations, the community also supports a car show, annual Kite Festival, and Evenings in the Park during the summer.
