About Goose Creek
In colonial America, "Goose Creek men" were colonists that settled a few miles west of Charleston near a stream called Goose Creek and engaged in Indian slavery and later deerskin trade. Home to over 30,000 South Carolinians, Goose Creek is a charming blend of residential neighborhoods and light industrial areas. Many residents of an apartment or home rental in Goose Creek are involved with United States military operations in the area, in fact the military is Goose Creek’s largest employer. The army and navy both operate depots nearby as well as large training facilities. Charleston Air Force Base is located at the Charleston International Airport, 5 miles south of Goose Creek. Charleston, 19 miles south, can be reached in 25 minutes by car or under 20 minutes by regional trains that run frequently between the cities. Residents of a Goose Creek house or apartment for rent can take advantage of the sprawling North Charleston Wannamaker County Park that provides recreational sports leagues in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, and gymnastics. And while these activities are tailored toward local children, many other recreational sports are also available to adults. Crowfield Golf and Country Club and Oaks Golf Club both provide attractive courses and reasonable greens fees. Long Field Pond and Crane Pond are both popular water sport areas and get quite busy during the summers and occasionally are fit for skating in the winters. The Berkeley County School District serves Goose Creek’s K-12 educational needs with 2 primary schools, 6 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 2 high schools. Fabulous Fourth in the Creek is the community’s largest event.
