Located south of Johnson City on the I-26 and 120 miles northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee, Erwin serves a population of 6,000 residents in a dynamic community mixed with industry and residential living. The town’s name was actually Ervin before a postal mistake changed the town to Erwin, which was never corrected. Interestingly, in 1916, Erwin hosted the world’s only public elephant execution after it killed its handler.
