About Jefferson City
Built on the southern tip of Cherokee Lake on the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Jefferson City is home to a relatively upscale community of 8,000 residents. Only 45 minutes northeast of Knoxville, Tennessee, Jefferson City serves as a suburban community that blends urban life with the rural countryside. Most residents that can’t find work locally don’t mind the 29-mile commute as Knoxville traditionally pays better wages, although the selection of jobs is quite varied. Originally named Mossy Creek, the city changed its name to honor the well-respected former president Thomas Jefferson. Residents of an apartment or home rental in Jefferson City are served by the Jefferson County School System, which operates a single elementary, middle, and high school. Carson-Newman College is also located in Jefferson City. The lake offers waterfront properties with spectacular views of the pristine lake and the gorgeous natural setting that surrounds the city.
