Merrifield is located in the northeastern region of Virginia, and has a population of about 11,000. Merrifield is mostly a residential area located on the outskirts of the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. The Amtrak Metro system provides transportation between Merrifield and Washington. Merrifield is part of Fairfax County, which is the most populous county of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Fairfax County is filled with historic attractions, as well as great shopping, dining, and fine arts. Some popular places to visit within Fairfax County include the George Washington Memorial Parkway, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, the Reston Zoo, and the Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge. Fairfax City also holds its grand festival, “Celebrate Fairfax!” each June.
