About Mukilteo

Located on the shore of Puget Sound, Mukilteo is a city located in Snohomish County, with a population of over 18,000 residents. The city is also one of the most affluent suburbs of the Seattle area, with a medium income of about $84,000.00. Although Mukilteo was officially incorporated in 1947, the city had a historic role in the development of Puget Sound, because it was here that the Point Elliot Treaty was signed between Governor Isaac Stevens and the chiefs of 22 Indian tribes in 1855. The town was first settled by the Europeans in 1858. Initially, the settlement was named Point Elliott, the name which was given by the Wilkes Expedition in 1841. During its early years, Mukilteo was a fishing village, trading post, and a port-of-entry, and the area surrounding the city was wooded. The city also contained a lumber mill, a cannery, a brewery, and a gun powder plant. Mukilteo also consists of a large neighborhood called Harbour Pointe, which was annexed to the Mukilteo in 1991. Mukilteo also includes excellent education bats the Kamiak High School, which is the most expensively constructed high school in the nation to date. Residents can find easy access to the nearby areas of Puget Sound, Clinton, Edmonds, Lynnwood, and Mill Creek. The city also contains a farmer’s market, and other various community events such as Run-A-Muk and Tour-de-Muk. The most popular park in the city is the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park, located next to the ferry docks, which was the former state park and lighthouse. Currently, there are plans to redevelop the Mukilteo Lighthouse Park.
