The city of New Martinsville is located in Wetzel County, in northern West Virginia, on the Ohio River. The area was settled by Edward Doolin in 1780, and was later called Martin’s Fort, in honor of Presley Martin, who bought the land and organized defensive measures after Doolin was killed by Native Americans. However, in 1838, the name was changed to Martinsville, and then again to New Martinsville in 1846 in order to avoid confusion with Martinsville, Virginia. The city’s economy is made up of the chemical, glass, and aluminum manufacturing industries. One of the most popular and celebrated events in New Martinsville is the annual New Martinsville River Heritage Days and Regatta, which is held in the Ohio River. The city also offers all kinds of excellent services to all of its residents living in a home or apartment for rent. The community also contains public pools, historic sights, and beautiful parks. New Martinsville also provides many recreational services, including rental facilities, miniature golf, and activities for each season of the year.
