About Princeton

Located in Mercer County, southern West Virginia, the city of Princeton has a population of about 7,000 residents, and is located 10 miles northeast of Bluefield. The site was settled in 1826 and named for Hugh Mercer, an American Revolutionary War General who was wounded at the Battle of Princeton. Today, the city is a transportation center for the surrounding farming and coal mining industries. The city also contains steel, fabricated wire, and coal mining equipment manufacturers. Concord College and Jefferson National Forest are also located nearby. The city is a hub for the Four Seasons Country in the region, and a large number of hotels, restaurants, and shopping areas have developed, giving the city a distinction of having great shopping and dining opportunities. The Chuck Mathena Center, which is a newly built facility, will host a majority of the cultural events, plays, concerts, and community gatherings. The city is also the home of the Princeton Devil Rays, a team that is part of the Appalachian League.
